It is a gel that is gentle on the gums and an anti-plaque aid, which ensures complete oral hygiene by inhibiting the development of bacteria that form plaque.
Plaque is made up of millions of bacteria that cause food residue to ferment, producing acids that attack tooth enamel and cause tooth decay.
An unwanted consequence of the formation of bacterial plaque is gingivitis, characterized by redness and bleeding of the gums.
If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis: a receding of the gums that, in extreme cases, can lead to tooth loss.
Chlorhexidine can cause pigmentation on the surface of the tooth, which can be easily removed at the dentist's office.
